How to Refill a Pre-Inked Stamp
Pre-inked stamps contain an ink reservoir built into the stamp pad. Over time, the ink is depleted through use and impressions become lighter. To refill:
- Open the stamp casing to access the ink pad (the pad is usually on the underside or behind a removable cap)
- Apply a few drops of refill ink evenly across the surface of the pad — do not over-saturate
- Close the casing and allow the ink to absorb for 15–30 minutes before stamping
- Test on scrap paper before using on official documents
A single refill typically restores the stamp for another 2,000–3,000 impressions depending on the stamp size and how heavily you press.
Important: Use the Correct Ink
Pre-inked stamps use oil-based ink, which is different from the water-based ink used in self-inking stamps. Using the wrong ink type will damage the stamp pad and affect print quality. This refill ink is specifically formulated for pre-inked stamps only — do not use it in self-inking or traditional rubber stamps with separate ink pads.
Always refill with the same colour ink that the stamp was originally inked with. Mixing colours will produce muddy, inconsistent impressions.
Compatible Stamps
This refill ink is compatible with The Copy Boy’s pre-inked rubber stamps. If you purchased your pre-inked stamp from us, this is the correct refill ink.
For stamps purchased from other suppliers, check with the original supplier to confirm ink compatibility — different pre-inked stamp systems may use proprietary ink formulations.
When to Refill
- Impressions are becoming noticeably lighter or faded
- The stamp produces uneven coverage (some areas print, others don’t)
- You need to press harder than usual to get a clear impression
If your stamp still produces poor results after refilling, the stamp pad may have dried out or reached the end of its lifespan. In that case, a replacement stamp may be needed — check out our Pre-Inked Rubber Stamp product.
