Understanding White Ink on Transparent Stickers
Because the material is see-through, colours printed directly onto clear film will appear translucent — the surface underneath shows through your design. This is intentional for some applications, but for others you’ll need white ink to create opacity.
We offer four print modes so you can control exactly how your sticker looks:
- CMYK only — your design prints directly on the clear film with no white backing. Colours appear translucent and the surface beneath is visible through the entire sticker. Best for simple logos, line art, or designs where the see-through effect is part of the look.
- CMYK + Full White Backing — a solid white layer is printed behind your entire design first, then CMYK colours are printed on top. This makes all colours appear vibrant and opaque, as if printed on white material. The areas outside your design remain transparent. Ideal for full-colour product labels, photo-based designs, and any artwork that needs colours to look true and punchy.
- CMYK + Spot White — white ink is printed only behind specific areas of your design that you nominate. This lets you mix opaque elements (e.g., white text, a solid logo) with translucent elements (e.g., a tinted overlay) in a single sticker. Perfect for creative designs that play with transparency as a deliberate effect.
- White Only — only white ink is printed, with no CMYK. This gives you a clean white design on a clear background — commonly used for white logos on glass, frosted-look window stickers, or minimalist branding.
Important: If you choose any option with white ink, you’ll need to provide a separate white ink layer in your artwork file showing exactly where the white should print. Not sure how to set this up? Send us your design and we’ll prepare the white ink layer for you at no extra charge.
Die-Cut vs Kiss-Cut
Die-cut transparent stickers are cut through both the clear film and backing — each sticker is an individual piece shaped to your design. This maximises the “no-label” effect since there’s no visible border or backing sheet around the sticker.
Kiss-cut transparent stickers have only the top layer cut, with stickers remaining on a clear backing sheet. We offer Transparent Kiss-Cut Stickers if you prefer stickers on sheets for easier peeling and organisation.
For transparent stickers, die-cut is especially popular because it eliminates any visible edge — the sticker truly disappears into the surface it’s applied to.
Lamination Options
- No lamination — retains maximum clarity and transparency, most cost-effective
- Gloss lamination — adds a subtle shine and extra scratch resistance while maintaining transparency
- Matte lamination — gives a frosted, semi-translucent appearance with a premium tactile feel, popular for cosmetics and artisanal products
