Why 80gsm Simili
Simili is an uncoated paper. It soaks up small spills and condensation from cold drinks instead of letting them run, and it still prints cleanly. At 80gsm it feels like a proper placemat rather than a thin sheet, but stays cheap enough to throw away after each diner.
What to put on a placemat
An A3 sheet is a large space that a diner looks at for the whole meal. Some ideas that work:
- Your logo and signature dishes, so every table promotes the menu without a server upselling.
- A QR code linking to your online menu, Google reviews or loyalty sign-up. Diners scan while they wait.
- Promotions, such as happy hour times, catering services or gift vouchers.
- Puzzles or a colouring section for family restaurants.
- Seasonal designs for Chinese New Year, Christmas or National Day.
- Advertising space sold to nearby businesses to offset the printing cost.
Artwork tips
- Work in CMYK at 300 DPI. Outline text and embed images.
- Plates and cutlery cover the middle of the mat, so keep key messages toward the edges.
- Uncoated paper absorbs more ink than coated stock, so colours look slightly softer and darker. Keep total ink coverage at or under 240%, and avoid large areas of heavy solid colour.
- Test a QR code by printing it at size and scanning it from a seated position.
- Scanned images and phone photos aren’t print-ready artwork.
