One form for both booklet sizes. Pick A5 or A4 first, then the binding, page count, cover, inner paper and quantity, and the price updates live. Quantities run from 10 to 500 books, with a lead time of 8 to 10 working days. All booklets on this page are portrait.
A5 or A4?
A5 (148 x 210mm) is half the size of an A4 sheet. It fits in a handbag or a conference tote, and it’s the usual size for event programmes, menus, guidebooks and small catalogues. Because the pages are smaller, A5 books can go thicker: up to 72 pages saddle-stitched and 116 pages perfect-bound.
A4 (210 x 297mm) gives you room for large photos, tables and technical drawings. Use it for annual reports, company profiles, training manuals and catalogues with a lot of detail on each page.
Page counts by size and binding
- A5 saddle stitch: 8 to 72 pages
- A5 perfect binding: 52 to 116 pages
- A4 saddle stitch: 8 to 52 pages
- A4 perfect binding: 56 to 104 pages
Page counts include the 4-page cover and go up in fours. A 24-page booklet is a cover plus 20 inner pages.
Saddle stitch or perfect binding?
Saddle-stitched books are folded and stapled through the spine. They’re economical, they open flat, and they suit thinner books. Perfect-bound books have the pages glued into a square spine, so the finished book looks like a paperback. Perfect binding needs a 260gsm or 310gsm art card cover.
Paper and finishing
- Cover: 80gsm Simili, 105gsm, or 128, 157, 260 and 310gsm art paper and card
- Inner pages: 80, 100 or 120gsm Simili, or 105, 128 or 157gsm art paper, printed full colour on both sides
- Lamination: gloss or matt, on 157gsm covers and heavier. Perfect-bound covers are laminated on the outer face only.
On saddle-stitched books the inner paper is matched to the cover and is never heavier than it, so the form only offers combinations that bind properly. Simili is uncoated and takes a pen well. Art paper is coated, so photos print with more contrast.
Preparing booklet artwork
- Send one PDF with single pages in reading order, not spreads.
- Keep a 25mm safe margin on the binding side so text doesn’t run into the staples or the glued spine.
- Add 2mm bleed on the outside edges. See our bleed guide.
- Work in CMYK and keep total ink coverage at or under 240%. Heavy coverage on facing pages can make them stick.

This page is portrait only. Landscape A4 is available on our A4 booklet page.
My page count isn’t a multiple of four. What should I do?
Add blank or notes pages to reach the next multiple of four, or trim the content. We can’t bind odd page counts.
